Dr Marais specialises in all aspects of knee surgery. He is the past president of the South African Knee Society and has delivered various lectures on a variety of knee problems.

He also cohosts instructional courses on arthroscopic knee surgery as well as knee arthroplasty.

Part of the Knee Fellowship training program of the Departement of Orthopaedic Surgery of University of Stellenbosch.
